The Department of Biotechnology at Gurucharan University, Silchar, was established in 2007. It is a premier centre for biological sciences in the Barak Valley, known for its Institutional Biotech Hub (established in 2011) and Bioinformatics Centre. The department offers a flagship Biotechnology program covering core areas like Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Microbiology. Students benefit from a research-oriented environment with active workshops and hands-on trainning programmes. The department publishes the annual journal BIOTECH (ISSN: 2230-9098) and an annual newsletter BIOLETTERS, focussing on recent advances in the field of Biotechnology. It also offers advanced academic programs, including Four year Integrated Master’s degree course, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees, focusing on frontier areas like Bioinformatics, and Medical Biotechnology, Microbiology and Plant Biotechnology.
